Flamingos & Salt is a repeating pattern design inspired in a place called Laguna Chaxa, located in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. I was there in 2017 and took lots of pictures of its beautiful scenery - which the flamingos, the salt texture and the colours inspired me to create this design. 

The flamingo illustrations were first hand-drawn, then scanned and arranged in Adobe Photoshop to form the repeating unit. This unit was then traced and expanded in Adobe Illustrator, allowing for easy color adjustments. The salt texture was generated using Illustrator’s image tracing tool, applied to one of my own photographs. Finally, different scales of the texture were used to create the background pattern.
